Tournament Rules
Format & Scoring
  • All matches are doubles format. USA Pickleball rules apply.
  • Round robin games are played to 9 points, win by 1.
  • Playoff games (semifinals and finals) are played to 11 points, win by 2, and have no time limit.
  • Round robin games have a 15-minute time limit. When time expires, the Lead Referee will allow the active rally to finish completely before calling time; the official end of the game is marked only when the ball is dead.
  • If neither team reaches the winning score within 15 minutes, the team with the higher score wins the game.
  • If the score is tied when time expires, teams play on until the tie is broken β€” maximum 2 additional minutes.
  • If still tied after the 2-minute extension, one final serve determines the winner of that game.
Divisions
  • Division A β€” Skilled: Mid-Intermediate through Advanced (DUPR 3.25 and above).
  • Division B β€” Developing: Beginner & Low-Intermediate (DUPR below 3.25).
  • Divisions are completely separate β€” no cross-division play in pool rounds or finals.
  • Each division crowns its own champion.
  • An optional exhibition match between Division A β€” Skilled and Division B β€” Developing winners may be played at the end if time permits. This match has no bearing on standings.
Officiating & Referee Roles
  • Lead Referee (Court Captain): The Court Captain serves as the Lead Referee. They manage the master 15-minute game clock, oversee court logistics, and hold final authority on all rule interpretations, foot faults, and scoring disputes. They also actively track the match score and manage the scoresheet.
  • Impartiality & Respect: Court Captains are NOT playing in the tournament. They are completely impartial volunteers generously giving their personal time to ensure a smooth and fair event. Please show full respect for their time, efforts, and decisions.
  • Second Referee: For each match, the Lead Referee will call upon a non-playing participant to serve as Second Referee. Their primary role is to assist with kitchen violations and line-call disputes.
  • Mandatory Referee Duty: All players who are sitting out a round or have just completed their match are required to serve as Second Referee when called upon by the Lead Referee. This keeps the tournament running on schedule.
  • Line Calls: Players make their own initial line calls. If players disagree, the decision defers to the referees. Each referee covers in-and-out calls on their designated side of the court. In the event of a disagreement between referees, the Lead Referee's verdict is final and binding.
  • Each team is responsible for calling the lines on their own side of the court only. If you cannot clearly tell whether a ball on your side was in or out, you must call it in β€” give your opponent the benefit of the doubt.
Score Reporting
  • After each match, scores are recorded by the Court Captain and entered into the system by tournament staff.
  • Scores require admin approval before they appear on the bracket.
  • If there is a scoring dispute, the Court Captain's scoresheet is the official record.
  • Admins may mark a match as No Show if a team does not appear.
Attendance & Conduct
  • Players must be 14 years of age or older.
  • Teams are responsible for showing up at the pre-arranged court and time. No admin supervision is required at the court.
  • A team that misses 2 scheduled matches without prior notice will be eliminated from the tournament.
  • Substitutions are allowed for injury or scheduling conflicts. Notify the organizers via WhatsApp before the match.
  • Paddles are available to borrow if needed β€” ask an organizer.
Spirit of the League
  • As this is a Muslim community event, all participants are encouraged to dress modestly and respectfully. Athletic shorts are welcome as long as they are of a reasonable length β€” please avoid very short shorts. Also avoid clothing with inappropriate graphics or messaging. Let us represent our masajids with dignity and brotherhood.
  • This is a brotherhood event. Sportsmanship is mandatory.
  • Verbal abuse, aggressive behavior, or unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification.
  • All MetroWest area masajids are welcome. Brotherhood over rivalry.
